The Mumbai monsoon reminds me of many rain songs & my
favourite rain song is ‘Tip tip barsa
pani’ from the movie bollywood movie Mohra.
The movie got released on 1 July 1994 even 20 years after its release I find
the song very new & fresh.
The song was composed by Mr. Viju Shah & playback singers were Ms. Alka Yagnik & Mr. Udit
Narayan. Mr. Shah from the
beginning of his musical career was phenomenal in using electronic sounds. In
this song he has used electronic sounds to signify sounds of rain drops. This
song’s music sounds like pop & it’s very soothing. The songs of Mohra were a massive hit as it were
written by great Indian lyricist Mr. Anand
Bakshi. Mr. Shah’s collaboration
with Mr. Bakshi was marvellous &
the songs attracted the masses of Mumbai.
The song ‘Tip tip
barsa pani’ featured Mrs. Raveena
Tondon & Mr. Akshay Kumar. It
was shot very aesthetically in a rainy weather or maybe artificial water was
used to make the scene look like rainy. Mrs. Tondon & Mr. Kumar
danced admirably on a under construction building. Mr. Kumar initially looked like an innocent police inspector & Mrs.
Tondon looked naturally beautiful. In
my personal humble opinion some very catchy aspects of the song were the Yellow
coloured blouse & yellow coloured saree
which Mrs. Tondon wore & an old
fashioned long umbrella which Mr. Kumar
had while entering the underconstruction building. The song was exceptionally
choreographed by Rekha Prakash wife
of choreographer Chinni Prakash.
In the movie before the song journalist Roma Singh played by Raveena Tondon wants to woo police
inspector Amar Saxena played by Akshay Kumar. Roma has fallen for Amar
but Amar a workaholic police
inspector hasn’t & remains occupied in his police duty. Romantic Roma wants to have a date with conscientious
Amar but Amar prefers to do some police duty instead. Roma says, “Well, I’ll give you a police duty. Tonight at 8 pm, a
woman is going to commit suicide from the fourth floor of an under-construction
building in Versova. If you’ll show
up, you might be able to save her.”
The night is rainy, & Police inspector Amar Saxena
reaches in time. He finds a Roma
drenched in rain water wearing a yellow coloured blouse & a yellow coloured
saree but she has seduction, not
suicide, in her mind. And then Mr. Shah’s great composition begins.
Below is the song’s translation in English
(drop by drop the rain poured)
(water kindled fire)
fire kindled in heart)
remembered you)
I remembered you)
wet body got blazed)
you tell me beloved)
should I do)
(your name came on my lips)
an excuse I called you)
a swing came the season of love)
should I do)
(Drop by drop the rain poured)
kindled fire)
fire kindled in heart)
remembered you)
I remembered you)
wet body got blazed)
you tell me beloved)
should I do)
(in an immersed river, standing on shore)
तू बिजली बनकर गिरी मेरे दिल पर (you came as lightening & struck my heart)
crazy wind blew)
मैं क्या करू (what I should do)
(Drop
by drop the rain poured)
fire kindled in heart)
I remembered you)
छा गया मुझपे दीवानापन (state of love
spread in me)
मेरे बस में नही मेरा मन (out of control is my mind)
मैं क्या करू (what should I do)
